Thoughts on Autumn Leaves...and Life

By Sharon Wilhite

How does a leaf
decide to fall?
Loosening its grasp
on the branch
That has been
its security
For almost three seasons,
Desperately plunging or gracefully descending.
To join other
fallen comrades
In a glorious profusion
of color
at the base of the tree,
Or to be blown by the wind
                                       far and wide
across yards and fields,
To places previously viewed
solely from the safety
of the branch.

Cling tightly
or
Let go?

Exhilarating freedom
or
Destructive folly?

Falling Leaves. . .

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:"
(Ecclesiastes 3:1)
